How a repair request works: from booking to the visit and the work order

What worries most people is rarely the fault itself. It is not knowing what happens once the request has been sent. So here is exactly how a repair job runs at Goldy Maintenance, step by step: from the moment you log the request, to the technician at your door, to the work order you hold in your hand once the visit ends. The route is the same for every job, however small the fault appears, because it is that order of events which keeps surprises out of both the appointment and the invoice.

Step one: logging the request

Everything starts with a request placed on the site or by calling 009004. We ask for four things only: the type of device and its model, a short description of the fault, the address where the visit will take place, and a time that suits you. We do not ask for technical detail that only a technician would know — describe what you see, in your own words. As soon as the request is logged it is given a job number that stays with it to the end and appears on every message we send. Quote that number whenever you contact us and you will never have to tell the story from the beginning again.

Step two: confirmation and the arrival window

We review the request during working hours and confirm an appointment as an arrival window rather than a single minute on the clock. The reason is simple: the visit before yours may run long or short depending on what the technician finds, and a promise pinned to one exact hour is a promise usually broken. Our windows are bounded, not open-ended, and the technician calls ahead with enough notice for you to be ready. If your description points to a part we recognise, it travels with him on that first visit and saves a second one.

Step three: the visit

The technician arrives carrying identification in the name of Goldy Maintenance, and you are entitled to ask to see it before letting anyone in. He then begins by inspecting, not repairing — and the difference matters:

  • Inspection first: he examines the device, powers it up and measures what needs measuring, so the outcome is a cause rather than a guess.
  • Then an explanation: what the fault is, what can be finished today, and what needs a part or a move to the workshop.
  • Then an estimate: labour, parts and an expected turnaround, before anything is taken apart.
  • Nothing starts without your approval: your agreement to that estimate is what puts a screwdriver to the device, and you are free to decline and pay only the published visit fee.

This sequence is not paperwork for its own sake. A technician who opens a device before explaining leaves you facing a decision under pressure, with the case already apart. We would rather you decided calmly.

Step four: the work order

No visit to Goldy Maintenance ends on a verbal summary. Every job closes with a written work order, and you keep a copy: job number and date of visit, the fault as the technician established it, what was actually carried out, the parts replaced and the grade of each, the amount split between labour and parts, and the warranty period on the work done. Read it before you sign it, and ask about any line you do not follow — explaining it is part of the technician's job. Anything not written on the work order is not a commitment on us, and that rule protects you before it protects us.

Step five: when the work cannot be finished on the visit

Some faults will not close in a single visit: a part has to be ordered, or the device needs a bench and tools that do not fit in a case. The work order then stays open at a known status — awaiting a part, at the workshop, or awaiting your decision — and we contact you at every change that calls for a decision from you. If the device travels to the workshop you receive an intake receipt listing the accessories that went with it, and afterwards it is released only to the holder of that receipt or to the registered number on the job. Parts we replace remain yours and are handed over on request, unless they went back to a supplier under an exchange we identify for you.

The visit fee is published before you book, and it is credited against the repair if you approve the work with us. A final price, however, is never given over the telephone before the technician has seen the device: anyone quoting a firm figure sight unseen is either guessing or planning to revise it later.
